May Bai, JLJ's HR manager, was invited by the Chilean Chamber of Commerce in China to speak at a day seminar in the Mesa & Manifesto, Shanghai on August 25th 2010.

Ms. Bai clarified any uncertainty regarding HR issues such as labor compliance (labor contracts, employee costs, social benefits, leave) and termination & severance payment.

The employment of Chinese staff is a fundamental matter that all companies (mostly SMEs) in China need to be familiar with. Examples of such issues are the key elements of a labor contract, how to hire and fire an employee, what social benefits must I pay for my employees, how many holidays can my employees take.

 

May Bai was the speaker for the seminar on 'Operational HR Issues of SMEs in China'. The workshop addressed labor compliance issues and gave the participants an opportunity to clarify any issues they were unsure of.

 


JLJ Partner Announced Chapter President of SMU Shanghai Alumni

A.J Hu, The JLJ Group Partner, is an SMU School of Business MBA graduate. In the year of 2002 an Alumni network was established in Shanghai with the assistance of Linda Kao, Assistant Dean and Mr. Hu. In March 2010 the network was formally recognized as an Alumni Chapter.

At a special event, with Ms. Kao, Brad E.Cheves (VP of Development & External Affairs of SMU), the board of Trustee, Seniors of SMU University and respected Judges, Mr. Hu was announced the first Chapter President of the SMU Shanghai Alumni.

On June 3, 2010, the USCS (Batlimore, MD) held a workshop (ExporTech: China) for SMEs on how to enter the China market. JLJ was invited to share its insights into current market dynamics, export incentives and considerations, regulatory issues, corporate formation, recruiting, and more.

ExporTech: China is an intensive, hands-on workshop aimed at executives of small and mid-sized companies with some export experience but have not fully pursued commercial opportunities in China.

Foreign firms face difficulties recruiting and retaining talent in China due to certain trends in the current labour market such as high turnover rates and increasingly competitive salaries. The differences between Chinese and Western cultures have also contributed to a myraid of management difficulties.

Mark Ray and May Bai presented a seminar covering both areas of concern, titled "China's HR Challenges and Management" at the Mexican Chamber of Commerce in China. The interactive session was well received by all present.
