Date 30 March 2009
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the industrial output of China’s large-scale machinery sectors rose by 5.4% year-on-year in the first two months of 2009.
In February alone, the ministry said, the production of large and medium-sized tractors increased by 51.4% and 60.1% respectively.
Driven by the country’s heavy infrastructure investments, the heavy machinery and equipment industry all experienced growth – manufacturing of equipment for mining, cement and metal smelting increased between 4 to 16%.
While the automotive sector in the US and many other countries has experienced significant losses over the past few months, auto producers in China have sold 1.56 million cars in the first two months, 2.7% higher than the same period last year.
The large-scale shipping industry saw a 43.9 percent growth over the same period last year. Its total industrial output stood at RMB 67.9 billion (US $9.94 billion), the ministry said.
